On June 22 & 23, 2013 Barrington Hall in Roswell, GA will be hosting our annual “Life in the 1860s” Living History weekend. There will be a children’s’ activity area, food demonstrations in the modern kitchen of historic Barrington Hall, period music and demonstrations of 1860s dancing. Also featured will be demonstrations of period skills such as spinning and blacksmithing. In addition there will be presentations in our carriage house meeting space about appropriate clothing in the 1860s, Civil War currency, etc. Local Girl Scout and Cub Scout groups will be setting up tables to make available information about their groups and to demonstrate different aspects of 1860s life.

Smart911 working to create a safer community
News & Events - In Our Community
Dunwoody has introduced an enhanced 9-1-1 service called Smart911 available for free to all residents. The Chattahoochee River 9-1-1 Authority is encouraging all citizens to create a Safety Profile at www.smart911.com, and provide 9-1-1 with the information they need to assist you in the event of an emergency. A profile can include as much or as little information as you want, such as:
-
Members of your family and any medical conditions, medications or allergies
-
Mobile phone numbers tied to home or work addresses
-
Your emergency contacts, vehicle information and even pets
-
Smart911 is 100% private and secure. The only time a profile is seen is when you call 9-1-1. The profile immediately displays to call takers, which allows first responders to assist you faster and more effectively.
How Does This Help?
Better informed first responders are better equipped to help you. With Smart911, responders are aware of critical medical information like Alzheimer's or allergies. Police can have access to a child's photo immediately in the event they are missing and Fire Fighters know household details –including bedroom locations and even pets.
How Does It Work?
Smart911 provides citizens with the ability to enter information that they want to make available to 9-1-1 call takers through a secure website at www.smart911.com. Smart911 then delivers this information automatically with any 9-1-1 call placed to the call taker's workstation at the 9-1-1 center.
What Details Are Shared?
It’s up to you! Smart911 allows you to store any information you choose online in advance of any emergency. Information can include children's photos, medical conditions, home addresses of mobile phone callers, disabilities or other rescue-related information.
How Do I Create a Profile?
The process is quick and easy... just four simple steps! Visit www.smart911.com and once you establish a user ID and password you will have a chance to add information or edit the information you have provided.
It could save your life, or the life of someone you love. Take 5 minutes to create your Safety Profile today at www.smart911.com

News & Events - In Our Community

We don't usually promote outside businesses or schools not in our feeder path, but we think this course would be very helpful for our DES families. If you are able to attend, please register with Marist at the link below.
Early Childhood Parenting Made Fun!™
Instructor: Ms. Jenni Ellis
This Love and Logic® parenting program is designed to help parents raise respectful and responsible children. The road to raising respectful and responsible children begins well before your child enters elementary school, which is why this program was designed specifically for those who have children younger than seven years old. Early Childhood Parenting Made Fun™ will give you specific answers and actions for some of the most difficult moments as the parent of a young child.
Session 1: Handling misbehavior without breaking a sweat and teaching children to listen the first time.
Session 2: Avoiding power struggles and how creating limits is key in having happier parents, happier children, and happier families.
Session 3: What to do when your children leave you speechless!
You will learn practical skills that you can use immediately and are building a foundation that will carry your child through the rest of his or her life. Join us as we laugh, learn, and become better parents.
Cost: $100 per person
Time: 7-9 p.m.
Location: Marist campus
Instructor Jenni Ellis has been in education for 16 years and currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Marist School. Her years of experience with adolescents have led her to the conclusion that those children who were brought up to be responsible and resilient are the most successful. Almost four years ago Jenni became a parent herself. She began implementing Love and Logic® strategies when her son was 15 months old and she wish she had done it sooner. In an effort to help parents, including herself, navigate the adventures of parenting Jenni became an independent facilitator of the Love and Logic® Early Childhood Parenting Made Fun!™ curriculum.
